this was made by Tmy carrdnote: THIS IS JUST BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH BEIN NONVERBAL, NOT EVERYONE WILL BE THE SAME WHEN IT COMES TO BE NONVERBAL!!
what is nonverbal/ what does nonverbal mean?
Basic, by the book definition:Not involving or using words or speech. But there's more to that in terms of those who are neurodivergent or have autism.
they occasionally do not have the brain capacity at certain moments, like if they are overstimulated (the state where a person is in extreme emotional or even physical discomfort and displays extreme irritability, anxiety, or fear) or even just at random for no apparent reason, sometimes you can just wake up nonverbal and have to take a while to say anything.

what causes one to become nonverbal?
there are many factors for someone to be nonverbal, this is a list of some possible factors (note this is just a brief list, there are so many other things that could cause someone to go nonverbal that are unknown to even professionals)
overstimulation (can be caused by a stressful environment with a number of things to cause overstimulation, like loud noises, overlapping sounds, and too many people)
stress
extreme tiredness
trauma
and again, it can just come at random with no apparent cause, like your mouth was suddenly duct-taped shut (it sounds weird but believe me, it hits hard and for literally no reason. it sucks.)

what to do if your friend goes nonverbal (can also work with overstimulation)
don't try and get them to talk about what's wrong or why they're silent, they literally can't speak so it's quite pointless, like asking a dead person what happened to them.DON'T ASK IF ITS YOUR FAULT!!!!
it usually causes more stress on them and they will become more nonverbal and it will last longer, and they still can't respond so it will stress them out because they can't communicate to you that they can't tell you what's wrong, and besides if you actually care enough to ask, it's probably not your fault.
what you can do:
if they aren't showing signs of overstimulation, just give them time to try and get back to being semi-verbal or fully verbal.
if they are overstimulating and can't express to you what's wrong, try and give them space to calm down, if you're in a public area, try and go somewhere quieter, if you are unable to go somewhere, sit them down somewhere and try to cover their ears and wait for them to calm down, do not use force.
over-text nonverbal and semi-verbal
yes, you can be nonverbal/semi-verbal over text, it's usually just not being able to form together sentences in text, it's still equally as stressful because you can't even form words, even in text, to express what's wrong.
semi-verbal is nonverbal but you can form short sentences or say selective words, but still are unable to form a full sentence.there isn't too much to do when someone is nonverbal over text aside from just letting them get time to form words.

final notes
as stated at the beginning, not everyone will be the same when it comes to being nonverbal, sometimes they can use text to communicate but can't speak in real life, or the other way around, and sometimes it can depend on the situation on how a person can communicate.
this is not a carrd to do any sort of self-diagnosis for anything nonverbalness is under (ADHD, ADD, autism and so on), just because you you fit with the nonverbal/semi-verbal description doesn't mean you should self dx yourself with anything, I'm no doctor either man I'm a 16 yr old who is failing school, just try and do more research on the topic and then try to go see a professional who specializes in these matters
do not think of those who suffer from these things as any different from others, they are still human, and they don't deserve to be treated any differently, if you alienate them, you are the reason society is collapsing like a lopsided Jenga tower.
